Overview
Use
this web-based application to send and receive large files with external
users and Meritor employees.
Click http://largefiletransfer.meritor.com to launch the application.
You
do NOT have to be connected to the Meritor network to use the application!
1. Choose Meritor
Employees.
Select: existing
users sign in
You
must enter your domain name, e.g. NA for North America.
using your LAN 6.1.1 network login credentials.
2. Contacts
--> Add External
Enter the name and
email of the person you wish to exchange files. Make sure the email
address is correct.
The system
automatically sends your contact an email containing the web address and
login credentials.
3. Choose Send
File
Choose one or more
contacts.
Browse for a file.
Send.
Wait for the web
browser to display a File Transfer Complete message.
The contacts
automatically receive an email containing the file name, who
sent it, and the web page link to download the file.
The sender receives
an automated email when the file is downloaded.
External
contacts can send files to anyone who has added them as a contact.
They use the same
web application and login credentials. You will receive an email notification
when a file is sent to you. They will receive an email when you download the
file.
You
can use the application to exchange files with other Meritor users.
Add a Meritor
contact using Contacts --> Add MERITOR
The
problem is caused by the first email that contains the user's default
password. The link in this email is incorrect. The other emails (the
ones that tell the user a file has been sent to them) contain the correct
link.
Solution: Just tell
the user to use the link in the next email and enter the default password,
which is password.
Or tell them to
choose "External User" and then press the Registered User button.
This will get them to the correct page.
Password Reset
You
can reset an external contacts password.
1. Log in.
2. Contacts -->
Modify
3. Press Modify
button next to their name.
4. If there is an Activate
button available, press it. This means the user attempted logging in
three times with an incorrect password. Go back to Step 3.
5. Press the Send
Password button. The system sends an email to the user containing their
default password.
Contact User Name
Some
users forget their user name. It is their email address. The easy
solution is just to send them a new password.
Missing Meritor
Email in Contact List
You
can use the application to send files to Meritor employees. You may see some
contacts not have an email address after their name. This is phone directory
problem. You need to submit a Remedy ticket to get this fixed.
File
Size
Maximum
file size is 400 megabytes.
File Name
Restrictions
The
files currently on the sent file list must have unique full path names.
If you send a file
to Joe called c:\my documents\customer\thedata.doc you cannot send a file to
Mary called "c:\my documents\customer\thedata.doc". (You should
have sent the file to Joe and Mary at the same time. You can send the
file if you put it in a different directory.
An easy solution is
to create a file hierarchy for keeping track of what you send, for example
C:\my documents\sentfiles\customer\
Sending Multiple
Files
A
simple way to send multiple files is to create a zip file of all the files
and then send the ZIP file. Some people put a "README.TXT" file in
the zip file that describes the purpose.
Removing A Sent File
Use Remove
Sent File to see a list of the files that you have sent that are still
available for download.
You can remove only
files you have sent.
Other Information
Only you
can see your contacts.
Only people you have
added as a contact can send you files.
The recipient list
is not exposed to all recipients when sending a file. If you send the same
file to multiple recipients, they do not see the names of the other recipients.
A contact may reside
on many Meritor users contact list. However, the contact only has a single
account.
You may receive a
message saying the file already exists on the site and you need to change its
name. A good way to solve this is to put all the files you are going to send
into a ZIP file and include a file called README.TXT or README.DOC that
describes what is being sent. Change the ZIP file name to the current date.
Send the ZIP file. This will reduce name collision, provide your recipients
with information about the files and also give you a record of what was sent.
You can use the
application to send files to people inside Meritor. Choose Contacts
--> Add MERITOR
Files are
automatically removed from the system after seven days of being posted unless
you changed the expiration date when you sent the file.
You can use the web
page outside the Meritor network.
